Cold therapy machines are simple, but a few habits make sessions safer and more comfortable.
1. Always use a barrier layer
Place a thin cloth or the supplied sleeve between the pad and bare skin, especially at the start of a session.
2. Add ice and water to the reservoir
Fill with water and ice per the manual. Never run the pump dry.
3. Set a timer, do not guess
Start with 20 minutes and check the skin afterwards. Our machines include timers (15 / 30 / 60 minutes) so sessions stay consistent.
4. Check the skin every 10 minutes
Look for excessive redness, numbness or blanching. If you see it, stop and let the area warm up.
5. Clean and dry after every session
Drain the reservoir, wipe the housing, and let the pad air dry. This protects the 3-layer pad and keeps the machine hygienic.
6. Follow your clinician's plan
Frequency and duration should match your recovery protocol, especially after surgery.
Typical session rhythm
Many recovery plans use 20–30 minutes, several times a day, for the first 1–2 weeks, then taper as swelling settles.
